'Will You Dance With Me?' Club Night

'Will You Dance With Me?' Club Night

Derek Jarman's rarely seen film Will You Dance With Me? will have a screening within the environment of Mathew Parkin's installation at Grand Union.

In 1984, British filmmaker Derek Jarman took his Olympus VHS camcorder into Benjy's, a gay nightclub in East London's Mile End district, and taped patrons dancing, talking, sitting, and drinking. Until recently this film has remained buried in an archive, but has now been unearthed by producer Ron Peck.

The screening will be followed by a discussion between Mathew and Fierce Festival's Director Aaron Wright around the themes of social dancing, queer space, community and utopia. The evening will end with a club night featuring DJs and performers who will respond to the film and a dancefloor will emerge as it loops on late into the night.

From 8pm until late, will you dance with us?
