This talk from Dr. Michell Chresfield (University of Birmingham) will explore the history of the Stonewall Riots - an uprising in New York City that would be the catalyst for the American LGBT Civil Rights Movement and inspiration for the rallies and marches that became the first Prides.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the riots, this event will look at the roles of women and people of colour at Stonewall as well as the life and work of activist and trans pioneer Marsha P. Johnson.

The talk will finish with a screening of short film Happy Birthday, Marsha, a film about Johnson and her life in the hours before she ignited the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City.
