Mosquita y Mari (12)
USA, Dir: Aurora Guerrero, 85 mins
In Los Angeles' predominantly Mexican immigrant neighbourhood of Huntington Park, straight-A student Yolanda (Fenessa Pineda) forms a new friendship with fiery and rebellious classmate Mari (Venecia Troncoso).
However, their friendship begins to distract them from their responsibilities and stirs feelings that Yolanda must hide from her Catholic parents and her peers. Mounting pressures at home ultimately force the girls to choose between their obligations to others and staying true to themselves.
This impressive and engaging first feature from Writer/Director Aurora Guerrero premiered as an Official Selection at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
Venue: The PUBLIC, New Street West Bromwich, West Midlands. B70 7PG
